From December 27–30, 2024, Friends Career Center (FCC) proudly participated in the Equip to Equip retreat held in Iganga, Uganda. Organized by the Young Quaker Christian Association Africa (YQCA Africa), this transformative event brought together passionate individuals committed to empowering communities through shared knowledge and collaboration.

The retreat provided an incredible platform for FCC to connect with young Quakers across Africa, fostering relationships that promise exciting opportunities for future partnerships. Key discussions centered on youth empowerment and equipping young people with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a world increasingly shaped by technological advancements. These conversations reinforced FCC’s mission to drive impactful initiatives and champion innovation in youth development.

A Transformative Experience: Simeon Ndagijimana's Story

As FCC’s delegate, Simeon Ndagijimana found the retreat to be deeply inspiring. It offered him invaluable insights into the challenges African youth face and the creative, collaborative solutions required to address them. Engaging in discussions with like-minded leaders underscored the critical role of mentorship and technology in building a brighter future for our communities.

One profound lesson Simeon took away from the retreat was: “If you sleep for one minute, you will find many opportunities have gone.” This powerful statement resonated deeply, emphasizing the urgency of staying proactive and alert in seizing opportunities to make a meaningful impact.

The retreat also equipped Simeon with essential skills in collaboration and partnership-building, which will help advance FCC’s mission. This experience has reinvigorated his commitment to fostering growth and innovation within our communities, ensuring that FCC continues to empower youth to break barriers and achieve their full potential.

Looking Ahead

As we step into 2025, the connections and lessons from this retreat will guide FCC’s efforts in continuing to launch youth-focused initiatives that drive sustainable change. We remain dedicated to building impactful partnerships and creating opportunities for young people to lead and thrive in an ever-evolving world.
